In 2016/2017, the HSE reported that 12.5 million working days were lost in the UK due to stress. Stress is the number one reason why people are absent from work and it accounts for the longest periods of absence. At first glance, this may feel counter intuitive. Work places are safer than they’ve ever been and ‘well-being’ is not far from anyone’s lips in today’s culture. In a world of screens and ‘always on’ culture however, we have forgotten the art of self-care and balance.
Mindfulness brings a set of well-being tools that allow us to find space and restoration in the midst of this frantic world. Establishing individual mindfulness practices for employees can build resilience and improve their ability to manage stress. Implementing mindful practices at the management level can reduce stressful working practices and create a more engaged workforce.
